SPARSH Hospitals Enhances Neurological Care in North Bengaluru with Dedicated Neuro ICU Launch

Strengthening access to specialised neurological care in North Bengaluru, SPARSH Hospitals at Hennur has inaugurated a dedicated 10-bed Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU), equipped to manage complex neurological emergencies, including acute stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, seizures, brain infections and other serious neurological conditions such as status epilepticus, Guillain–Barré syndrome and myasthenia gravis.
The unit was inaugurated by Dr S. Venkateswara Sharma, Deputy Director, U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bengaluru, Chief Guest, alongside the SPARSH Hospitals leadership team, including Jasdeep Singh, Group CEO; Col Rahul Tewari, Cluster COO, SPARSH Hospitals, Hennur and Yeshwanthpur; Dr Murali Mohan, Lead Consultant – Neurosurgery; and Dr Nithin Kumar N., Senior Consultant – Neurology. Senior doctors and hospital staff were also present at the inauguration.
The 10-bed Neuro ICU features advanced monitoring technologies, including continuous video EEG for seizure detection and intracranial pressure monitoring for patients with traumatic brain injuries. It also offers mechanical ventilation, advanced haemodynamic monitoring and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for patients with multi-organ complications. The facility follows stringent infection prevention protocols and provides access to CT, MRI and neuro-interventional radiology services for timely diagnosis and treatment planning. A multidisciplinary team of neuro-intensivists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, critical care nurses and rehabilitation professionals work together to deliver coordinated, round-the-clock care.
Alongside the Neuro ICU, the hospital released its dedicated Stroke Manual at the event, developed in-house and customised for SPARSH Hennur’s own clinical teams. Comprising a comprehensive stroke manual, an acute stroke workbook and a pocket guide, it standardises every step of stroke care, from recognition in the emergency department and rapid imaging to acute treatment decisions, Neuro ICU care and rehabilitation. This ensures that every doctor, nurse and technician responding to a stroke follows the same time-critical pathway.
SPARSH Hennur also launched its Integrated Brain & Heart Stroke Prevention Clinic, which brings neurology, neurosurgery and cardiology together under one roof. As the brain and the heart share many of the same risk factors, the clinic takes an integrated approach to identifying people at risk early and helping them reduce that risk before it leads to a stroke or heart attack.
Speaking on the occasion, Col Rahul Tewari, Cluster COO, SPARSH Hospitals, Hennur and Yeshwanthpur, said: “Healthcare must evolve with the needs of the communities it serves. As Bengaluru continues to grow, access to advanced and specialised medical care closer to home becomes increasingly important. The launch of the Neuro ICU at Hennur reflects our commitment to bringing together clinical expertise, advanced technology and compassionate care to make specialised healthcare more accessible to the community.”
Dr Murali Mohan, Lead Consultant – Neurosurgery, SPARSH Hospitals, Hennur, highlighted the importance of specialised neurological critical care:
“Patients with critical neurological conditions require continuous monitoring, rapid clinical assessment and timely medical intervention. A dedicated Neuro ICU enables us to closely monitor brain function, identify complications early and coordinate treatment through a multidisciplinary approach. This is particularly important in cases of acute stroke and severe neurological injuries, where timely intervention can make a significant difference.”
“Most strokes are linked to risk factors we can identify and control. The prevention clinic lets us reach people before they ever need an ICU, and our stroke manual ensures that when a stroke does happen, the whole team responds the same way, without delay.”
The inauguration of the Neuro ICU, together with the release of the Stroke Manual and the launch of the Prevention Clinic, marks another step in SPARSH Hospitals’ commitment to strengthening specialised healthcare services in North Bengaluru. By combining advanced infrastructure, specialised medical expertise and coordinated critical care, the hospital aims to provide patients and their families with timely, comprehensive and compassionate neurological care closer to home.
