SAMBANDH FUNCTION NAVY DAY CELEBRATION

As part of Navy Day Celebrations, Sambandh (Navy Day At Home) function and Beating Retreat was hosted by Rear Admiral KM Ramakrishnan, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area on 04 Dec 24 at Navy House, Karwar. The event was graced by His Excellency Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka.

The 4th of December is celebrated as Navy Day, as a proud affirmation of the victory achieved in the 1971 war against Pakistan. This day commemorates the Indian Navy’s ingenious operations including missile boat strikes on the port of Karachi, a pivotal moment in India’s military history.

The evening featured the ‘Beating Retreat Ceremony, showcasing a repertoire of musical tunes skilfully set to martial rhythms. The performance began with the rousing notes of the fanfare Vande Mataram and included iconic compositions such as Tattoo (for Big Band), Renaissance, Vaishnava Janato, Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon, Admiral Ensign and Abide with Me followed by the Sunset Ceremony.

At sunset, Naval warships, anchored in Karwar Naval Harbour, illuminated the harbour in their full splendour. The sight was a magnificent testament to the Navy’s traditions and its role in safeguarding the Nation’s maritime interests. Little champs from Naval Kindergarten along with the in-house talent form various parts of the country enthralled the audience with their mesmerising performance showcasing unity in diversity.

The event was attended by several dignitaries from all walks of life, including Naval personnel & defense civilians along with family members, central & state government officials, prominent industry & business heads and eminent citizens of Karwar and in and around. 30 Children along with staff from Navjyoti Nilayam orphanage and Saraswati Vidaya Mandir Girls School Karwar also attended the function and interacted with the chief guest.
