Indian Army Showcases National Integration and Cultural Heritage at the 76th Republic Day Parade in Bengaluru

The 76th Republic Day celebrations at Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru witnessed a magnificent display of national integration, military discipline, and cultural heritage. Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot hoisted the national flag and received the ceremonial salute in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, dignitaries, and citizens.
A key highlight of the event was the spectacular parade led by Lieutenant Colonel Akhil Kumar Sharma, Parade Commander from the Corps of Engineers. Assisting him as Parade Second-in-Command was Major Satheesha D, a proud Kannadiga and decorated officer of the Army Education Corps. Both officers are currently serving in the Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area.
The Republic Day parade showcased a seamless blend of military prowess and cultural diversity, reinforcing India’s motto of “Unity in Diversity.”
Military Contingents & Cultural Displays
•*Marching Contingent*: The Gorkha Rifles, led by Lieutenant Shivraj Singh Gill, demonstrated exceptional discipline and precision, embodying the regiment’s proud motto, “Kafar Hunu Bhanda Marnu Ramro” (Better to die than to live like a coward).
•*Khukri Dance*: Led by Naik Sovit Thapa, this traditional Gorkha performance highlighted the valor of the Gorkha warriors, showcasing their combat techniques with the iconic Khukri blade—symbolizing agility, precision, and resilience.
•*Bhangra Performance*: The 253-year-old Punjab Regiment, led by Lance Havildar Tejinder Singh, presented a vibrant display of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage. The energetic performance reflected the unity and camaraderie within the regiment.
•*Gatka Martial Art*: Under the leadership of Naib Subedar Balbir Singh, the demonstration of the ancient Sikh martial art Gatka captivated the audience, emphasizing agility, discipline, and the warrior spirit of the Sikh community.
•*Military Band*: Established in 1954, the Army Band, led by Subedar SN Dey, played patriotic tunes, displaying musical excellence and adding grandeur to the celebration.
A Tribute to India’s Diversity and Military Excellence
The Republic Day celebrations concluded with a heartfelt tribute to India’s unity and military strength. The Indian Army’s efforts under the Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area successfully showcased national integration through synchronized marching, martial arts, and cultural performances—earning thunderous applause from the audience.
The Army, a true embodiment of ‘Unity in Diversity,’ lived up to its highest traditions with style, discipline, and impeccable military form.
