Recruitment after 8 years in the Corporation – Appointment Orders Issued Today to 2000 Driver-cum-Conductor Candidates

On June 17, 2025, at the Central Office of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Sri Ramalinga Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Transport and Muzrai, Sri S.R. Srinivas (Vasu), Hon’ble Chairman of KSRTC and MLA of Gubbi Constituency, and Sri Mohammed Rizwan Nawab, Hon’ble Vice Chairman of KSRTC, symbolically distributed appointment orders to 51 Driver-cum- Conductor candidates.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ramalinga Reddy congratulated the newly appointed candidates and stated that the recruitment process was conducted in a completely transparent manner, without any manual interference, and all selections were made purely on the basis of merit.

He emphasized that the newly appointed driving staff must perform their duties responsibly and contribute to the growth and development of the Corporation. He urged them to behave courteously with women passengers and students and to remain alert while driving to prevent accidents.

The Minister further added that post-COVID, the Corporation had faced several hurdles but is now progressing toward financial stability, and many employee-friendly schemes have been implemented. Free medical services are now being provided to employees and their dependents.

Across all four transport corporations, more than 1,000 dependents of deceased employees have been offered jobs. Recruitment is underway for around 9,000 posts, out of which 7,500 have already been completed.

To support the families of employees who die in accidents, the Corporation has introduced an insurance scheme with ₹1 crore coverage. In case of natural death, compensation of ₹10 lakhs is being provided under the Family
Welfare Scheme.

Chairman S.R. Srinivas (Vasu) stated that recruitment had been stalled for the past eight years, and it was only through discussions with the government, led by the Hon’ble Transport Minister, that the process could resume. He reiterated that the selection was done entirely on eligibility and merit, and candidates have been assigned units accordingly. He advised the recruits to handle this responsible role with dedication and help strengthen the Corporation financially. He wished all the newly appointed candidates the very best.

Vice Chairman Sri. Mohammed Rizwan Nawab noted that after several years, the recruitment drive has begun, and 2,000 Driver-cum-Conductor staff have been appointed. He congratulated all the recruits and urged them to perform their duties with utmost care and responsibility.

1) Recruitment After 8 Years – Appointment Orders Issued Today to 2000 Driver-cum-Conductor Candidates

i. In 2020, a notification was issued to recruit Driver-cum-Conductor posts in the Corporation through direct recruitment.

ii. However, the recruitment process was halted due to the Government’s directive following the outbreak of COVID-19.

iii. On 13.10.2023, the Government approved the recruitment of 300 Technical Assistants and 2000 Driver-cum-Conductors.

iv. Recruitment to the posts of Technical Assistants was completed, and the selected candidates were assigned to divisions/depots in January 2024.

v. For the 2000 Driver-cum-Conductor posts, a total of 25,494 applications were received. Among the candidates who appeared for document verification, 13,954 were eligible for the driving skill test.

vi. For the convenience of candidates, driving skill tests were conducted at the Humnabad Training Centre of Kalyana Karnataka RTC and the Hassan Training Centre of KSRTC. Accordingly, 2,672 candidates opted for Humnabad and 11,282 opted for Hassan.

vii. The driving skill test was entirely computerized, and for the first time, objections were invited on the test results.

viii. Based on merit/reservation among those who passed the test, a provisional selection list for 2000 posts was published on 05.06.2025, with a 7-day window for submission of objections.

ix. The final selection list was published on the Corporation’s website on 12.06.2025.

x. The selected Driver-cum-Conductor candidates are being directly assigned to divisions/depots through computerized counseling based on seniority/merit.

xi. Computerized counseling is being conducted from 16.06.2025 to 19.06.2025. Selected candidates can join duty by 05.07.2025.

xii. On 17.06.2025, appointment orders were symbolically distributed at the Central Office to 50 Driver-cum-Conductor candidates who had secured 50/50 marks and completed counseling on 16.06.2025.

xiii. Over the past year, compassionate appointments have been given to 209 dependents of deceased employees.

xiv. In total, 2,500 posts have been filled in the Corporation over the past one and a half years.

2) Shakti Scheme
It has been two years since the implementation of the Shakti Guarantee Scheme by the Government of Karnataka. As of 16.06.2025, 478 crore women have traveled on Karnataka State transport vehicles, with a zero-
ticket value of ₹12,092 crore across the Corporation’s services.

3) Sarige Suraksha Rs. 1 Crore Accident Insurance Relief Scheme
With the aim of providing financial security to dependents of its employees, the Corporation has introduced the Saarige Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme. In case of accidental death, whether on duty or off duty, a compensation of ₹1 crore is provided. So far, dependents of 26 deceased employees were given ₹1 crore each
who die in an accident while on duty or off-duty and have provided with Rs.26 crore compensation.

4) Employee Family Welfare Relief Scheme
Recognizing the rising number of deaths among employees due to heart attacks, cancer, strokes, and other causes, and responding to demands from various labor unions, the Corporation has revised its Employee
Family Welfare Compensation Scheme. From 01.11.2023, the compensation has been increased from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh per case. Under this revised scheme, ₹10 lakh each has been provided in 125 cases, totaling ₹12.5 crore.

The event was attended by Akram Pasha (IAS), Managing Director, KSRTC, Dr. Nandinidevi K. (IAS), Director – Personnel & Vigilance, Ibrahim Maigur (IAS), Director – Information Technology, along with union leaders, officers, and staff of the Corporation.
