The commencement of the first day of the two day International Standards Summit 2024 - Energy Sector – Ensuring Excellence, Adaptation and Transformation through Standards took place in Hotel Taj Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru on 4th July 2024.

The event, organized jointly by BIS and CII, was inaugurated today in the presence of Smt. Nidhi Khare (IAS), Secretary, Deptt of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, Shri. Kamal Bali- President and Managing Director, Volvo group in India, Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari(IAS), Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards, Mr. Sergio Mujica, Secretary-General, ISO (Virtual), Shri Vimal Mahendru- IEC Vice President and Chair (Standardization Management Board ), Shri Chandan Bahl, Sc-G Deputy Director General-BIS and Shri Vipin Sahni, Ex. Director, CII Institute of Quality. The purpose of this summit is to address the pivotal role of standards as the world moves towards a sustainable future with a strong emphasis on clean and green energy deployment and the fostering of indigenous manufacturing for clean energy technologies. The audience are excited about the insightful discussions, innovative solutions, and transformative strategies that will emerge while this event. Nidhi Khare (IAS)-Secretary-Consumer Affairs, Government of India, highlighted the role of the Consumer Affairs Ministry in implementing key missions of the Government of India, such as the Solar mission, Green Hydrogen mission, and E-mobility, showcasing the ministry's commitment to driving sustainable and clean energy initiatives. Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari (IAS), Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards stressed the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders for the advancement of Indian standards, while urging active involvement in standard formulation and promotion. He also discussed BIS's involvement in the National Climate Action Plan, highlighting the organization's dedication to sustainability aspects in standards. Shri Vimal Mahendru, IEC Vice President and Chair (Standardization Management Board) speech highlighted the collaboration between IEC & ISO in formulating International Standards, emphasizing the concept of "ONE WORLD ONE STANDARD."
