Bengaluru : Bangalore branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards body of India (under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Govt of India) organized Manak Manthan about the recently added amendment, Amendment -1 (Jan 2024) of Indian Standard IS 10702:2023- Specification for Hawai Chappal, for comments from all stakeholders, laboratories, NGOs, and consumers.

Participants from various verticals including footwear manufacturing industries, laboratories, consumer societies, and media representatives participated in person in the above program. This meeting is intended to take the standardization process closer to all stakeholders, encouraging faster adoption and simultaneously taking feedback on anticipated challenges and opportunities. It also helps in the smoother implementation of the published Indian Standard.

Vijayaveeran K, Director & Head, BNBO, welcomed all the guests and attendees of the event and briefed them about the program objectives. He also shared his valuable comments on the draft Indian Standard.

As the chief guest, Dr. Adnan Shaikh, CEO & Founder, of Physiobic Healthcare, Bangalore, graced the occasion. He discussed and clarified with the participants about the necessity of revision of the Standards. He quoted that 20-25% of the Indian population has the complaint of Plantar fasciitis and flat foot, which causes heel and knee pain. So wearing proper and cushioned footwear is important for the treatment for pain management.

Ms. Nagavalli,Sc-E/ Director, BIS Bangalore Laboratory presented a special address on the event and suggested the participants to be interactive and suggestive. She mentioned the quality assurance and failure analysis of samples for the manufacturers.

Smt Vinodini Kishore, Scientist D & Joint Director, BIS Bangalore Branch Office presented the published Standard for discussion in detail.
