1 Karnataka Battalion NCC under Group ‘A’, Bengaluru conducted cleaning of Yele Mallappa Shetty Lake in Bengaluru on 25 Sep 2022 from 0900hrs to 1200 hrs under Puneet Sagar Abhiyan to mark the 75th year of Independence which is a nationwide flagship programme of the National Cadet Corps aimed at educating people to clean seashores, rivers, lakes and other waterbodies of plastic and other waste materials.
The Abhiyan was flagged off by Group Commander Col Basant Singh, ‘A’ Group NCC, Bengaluru in the presence of Col B S Dhami, Commanding Officer 1 Karnataka Battalion and his team. The event was also attended by Mr Dilip Kumar, Secretary of Kayaking & Canoeing Association of Karnataka, Mr Anand Shanker, Secretary of Yachting association & Rotarian Mrs Varsha the President of Rotary Club of Lake World. A total of 150 Cadets from various institutions of ‘A’ Group, Bengaluru participated in the event with great enthusiasm. The cadets interacted with local population and spread the awareness on importance of keeping our waterbodies free of plastic and other waste. The cadets collected 60kgs of plastic and other waste and handed over to Mr Sunil, representative of Shakti Plastic, which is doing a social service to the people by producing various products from recycled plastic.
Group Commander appreciated the Cadets for their enthusiasm and whole hearted participation for making the event a grand success.
A demo on Kayaking and Canoeing by the YMC athletes was shown to the cdts and many of them got motivated to take to water sports.
